Exploring Subtle Design Changes

This project involved providing insight for the interior upgrade/refresh of a foyer. Located in a relatively large and prominent apartment building, the foyer featured many existing architectural and fixed design details including marble floor tiles, carpet, and interior decor including tub chairs, tables, mirrors and light fixtures.

The existing colour scheme featured the same/similar colours on the walls and architectural details such as the wall columns and dado wall bench. For this project, subtle colour design changes were recommended, as featured in the image above.

Instead of changing the colour scheme, I suggested painting the dado wall bench a dark blue (Resene Crescendo) and painting the relatively large-scale architectural door frames a colour inspired by the marble wall tiles, Resene Villa White. A final option was painting trompe l’oeil marble on the wall columns to give these subtle visual interest. The selected marble – Calacutta Gold – features off-white, cream (similar to the marble floor tiles) and soft grey.
