Photography Update

I dabble in photography and like to focus on the ways in which colour, colour contrast and light-dark contrast attract attention, create focus and contribute to mood and ambience. I use an iPhone and Sony  NEX-6 camera.

I was commissioned to photograph Sticky Fingers cafe in Surry Hills, designed by Melissa Ward. As an architect, Melissa has a keen eye for detail and this is obvious in the finishes, furniture and plan of the cafe. Located on a corner site, the cafe features a somewhat awkward interior space and Melissa has addressed this brilliantly with her design. The predominantly white/grey/black interior is offset by honey-coloured timber and gold trim detail on the tables. The perforated exterior wall casts golden light beams onto the large share table. I’ve been participating in AddOn photography exhibition annually since 2012. Curated by Charles McKean and Moshe Rosenveig (HeadOn Photo Festival), this satellite exhibition, AddOn, features the tagline ‘No names, no titles’. You can find out more about AddOn and the HeadOn Photo Festival at their website.

I take the outdoor photographs for the Sydney-based blog, Blush & Bordeaux. This blog, which has attracted a strong following and lots of cross-promotions, was initially established in 2014 by Lucy O’Connor. I use a Sony  NEX-6 with a 50mm f/1.8 Mid-Range lens for close-up shots.  You can check out Blush & Bordeaux and subscribe here.

Since 2008, I have photographer Lucy O’Connor’s solo and band performances. With her band Tiger & the Rogues or solo, Lucy has played many of Sydney’s legendary venues including the Vanguard, the Enmore Theatre, Annandale Hotel, Lansdowne Hotel and Notes Newtown. Lucy also played a series of gigs in the USA including Chicago, Nashville and New Orleans. Many of Lucy’s songs have been short-listed in the Australian Songwriting Awards and the MusizOz awards. In 2014, Lucy was nominated for the prestigious Rudy Brandsma Award for Songwriting Excellence.
