Interior colour scheme formula

In a media interview with Laura Trieste, I discussed a simple interior colour scheme formula. This formula equates to 60% Dominant hue/tonal value; 30% Auxiliary hue/tonal value and 10% Accent hue/tonal value.  This approach to interior colour provides a cohesive colour scheme provided auxiliary and accent colours are effectively balanced in terms of placement and proportion relative to the predominant colour.

The article also discussed ways to create ‘calm’ interiors by addressing the problem of visual noise.  Visual noise occurs when there is too many contrasts and patterns in interior design. To achieve a calmer ambience, reduce the multiplicity of contrasts. Contrasts can occur among any of the three attributes of colour – hue, tonal value and saturation. In addition, the roles played by personal preference and beliefs about colour were also noted as impotrant factors in creating ambience using colour. The Mosman Daily, 28 April 2016.
